Description

This record contains the digitized pages of a field research notebook documenting a 1972 expedition to Худжанд in Tajikistan. Provided by the ethnographer Dr Muhiddin Faizulloev to Dr Sophie Roche and her Research Group on Central Asia at Heidelberg University, the notebook is substantially the work of Dr Faizulloev, with contributions by other members of the expedition as noted.

This repository contains all of the known expedition notebooks of Dr Faizulloev, as well as a photographic collection documenting soviet ethnographic expeditions to Tajikistan between 1972 and 1995. Faizulloev worked with Sergei Polyakov (Moscow State University) and Valentin Bushkov (Moscow Archive), two prominent Russian ethnographers who have published extensively on the Tajik people. The fieldwork reported in this notebook was supported by Lomonosov Moscow State University with the support of personnel from Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The geographic visualization above is based on the location of the expedition's principal activities, although the notebook describes fieldwork in other towns and villages in the surrounding countryside. Additional development of this repository is being undertaken to link the photographic images with respective expeditions and geolocations, and will be made available in due course.
